The first multi track mixers were by Rupert Neve, Solid State, Harrison and Soundcraft live .
Late 60's to early 1970.
Here is a picture of early Neve. A few months
later all 24 small VU meters were available.

Not sure about that - are you talking hand assembled or production models?
I distinctly remember the Altec 9300ACD as being the first production mult-track mixer, although many had been hand-built prior to that.

I remember seing it in the green binder.
It was huge 24 tracks. The sliding fader knobs
were round if i'm not mistaken.
Was there a newer generation of that model in the 70's? Or did Altec drop it all together?

I think there's a gray area. What's a multitrack mixer. There is no dispute Les Paul invented multitrack recording. He mixed it down- if that is a multitrack mixer, then we are talking way back.
Companies are notorious in claiming firsts. There may be the first solid state mixer of its type, which was one that had purple knobs when you read the fine print. Grains of salt are in order.

I've done some research and Altec was very close to being the first. Here is a picture I believe of the 9300ACD from 1971.
Would that be Jim Kovacs by any chance.
